Goodwind Moto Tours: Riding for a Cause
Founded in 2016 as “Goodwind Riding” by Anil Nair, GMT began as a charitable riding platform inspired by the sailor’s blessing: may the good winds be with you. What started with charity rides for underprivileged children and cancer patients has evolved into one of India’s most premium motorcycle touring experiences, without ever losing its original purpose.
In the realm of luxury travel, luxury is often equated with exclusive access, five-/seven-star amenities, and bespoke itineraries. But Goodwind Moto Tours (GMT) hits you differently. Redefining the paradigm, GMT takes you on the most profound journeys, where it’s not just about the ride or the riders but a journey connected to deeper human purpose. GMT’s first expedition was taken by a trio of passionate motorcyclists—Anil, Amit, and John. And since then the organisation has evolved drastically!
“The joy of living with the joy of giving”
The Genesis of a Movement: From “Goodwind Riding” to GMT
Unlike most riding companies, Goodwind Moto Tours was not a projection that came out in a boardroom but a vision that was felt between wind-swept hair on the open road. In 2016, the founders executed their envisioned idea, and “Goodwind Riding”, a philanthropic platform, was born. The goal was simple. Aligning the thrill of riding with raising awareness and substantial funds for underprivileged children.
Even the name Goodwind eludes tradition. It is a constant reminder of an ancient sailor’s blessing: “May the good winds be with you,” reminding us that we’re always at the mercy of nature, especially while going out on expenditures or tours. This sentiment of goodwill acts as our guiding light and our saviour. As the brand grew and transitioned into the Goodwind Moto Tours, the founders remained adamant that success would never overshadow the company’s charitable roots.
Philanthropy as a Core Competency
There are no afterthoughts at Goodwind Moto Tours. Instead, philanthropy is baked into the very DNA of GMT. And continuing to serve, the organisation maintains long-standing partnerships with many charities, allowing you to become a part of a tour that is both measurable and meaningful.
Bal Asha Trust – Providing Home to Abandoned Children
One of the beneficiaries of GMT’s efforts is Bal Asha Trust. It is a care home in Mumbai which is a haven for children who are left abandoned for their lives. Joining hands with Bal Asha Trust, GMT aims at providing these children with utmost care, support, nutrition, and education, which will ensure a brighter and safer future for them.
Tata Memorial Hospital – Fighting Cancer
About 5.5 lakh people lose their lives to cancer every year in India. GMT, realising the need, significantly supports the paediatric oncology department at Tata Memorial Hospital. The department is one of India’s leading cancer research and treatment centres. Hence, for the founders, every single tour is not just another chance to explore but to turn the roar of every engine into a symbol of hope for hundreds of thousands of families.
The GMT Experience: A Symphony of Professionalism and Connection
Goodwind Moto Tours offer ultra-luxury experiences with prices typically ranging from two thousand euros to ten thousand euros. Again, these are not just numbers. The figures reflect immense complexity and logistical precision necessary to execute a seamless international experience for every rider. GMT’s portfolio? Well, whether it is encompassing the rugged beauty of Bhutan, the iconic passes of the Italian Alps, or the diverse terrains of Asia and Africa, you name it and GMT will guide you through it.
But there’s also a “Goodwind difference”. The founders believe that true magic unveils itself when the helmets come off and riders halt in the middle of unknown terrains to “break bread” together. There’s nothing more satisfying than sharing a meal and stories with comrades after a long day. The laugh, the fire, and engraved memories all turn strangers into a lifelong community. Goodwind emphasises camaraderie and shared values that turn premium tours into something extraordinary that justifies the nature of all Goodwind Tours.
Safety, Logistics, and the Art of Preparation
The organisation operates on uncompromising commitment to safety. GMT is renowned for its rigorous vetting process, which won’t give you a pass just over owning a driving licence. You have to earn your ride at GMT. Before being accepted, you’ll need to get your skills and temperament under pressure checked, which is crucial for such wild tours. The founders believe that a positive mindset for a rider is uncompromising. Hence, GMT tours eventually become a safe and enjoyable experience for the entire on-board group.
And then it’s prep time. GMT expeditions start even before you can turn on any engine. Briefings are made, and teams meticulously explain details about gears and local law and even provide overviews of cultural etiquette 30-40 days prior to departure.
During our interview, the founders highlighted the fascinating contrast between riding in different global regions:
Foreign Expeditions:
Traveling abroad especially for expeditions is a unique experience, it is said to reciprocate predictability. Traffic is strict and follows a rule-based logic. Hence, riders can easily focus on the technical details of every curve and enjoy the sightseeing of the landscape.
Indian Expeditions:
Riding in India can be described as a “sensory explosion”. It is simply unpredictable and organic. The unpredictable movement of every rider and even livestock roaming around on roads makes it challenging for the rider. Riding here needs alertness and precision, providing an environment unique to the subcontinent.
The Evolving Landscape: Inclusivity in the Saddle
The world of premium motorcycle touring almost creates an image of a pack of men revving those beastly engines. But this world is expanding, thanks to GMT. The company is actively promoting and encouraging female participation. Their riding groups have seen a 30% hike in women, which includes solo riders who pilot their own machines, ready to take on the world as much as men do.
The founders take pride in this shift. Women always cater a unique perspective, energy, thrill, and experience to the dynamics of the group. “The road knows no gender,” and GMT has proven it. With female participation in touring groups, the ride feels more complete, and the community is enriched with more diverse voices and experiences.
Conclusion: The Journey is the Destination
Goodwind Moto Tours is the living proof of achieving professional excellence and playing our roles in moral encompassingness. For Anil, Amit, and John, it is not just a business. It feels like success built for a global change.
GMT combines luxury boutique stays, immersive cultural experiences, and premium motorcycles, all while maintaining an obsessive focus on preparation and safety. Every rider is vetted, briefed, and trained to ensure they are ready not just for the terrain, but for the discipline of the road itself.
With more than 500 riders across continents namely Asia, Africa, and Europe, GMT is proving that the finest journeys are not just about where the road leads but also about who you become along the way!
“May the road rise to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and the rains fall soft upon your fields.”
